Area Hoops Roundup 1-27-14

Several area teams were in action on Monday night as the Gilman City and Meadville tournaments began. Gilman City, Tri-County and Princeton are all playing at the Gilman City Tournament while Grundy R-5 and Mercer are competing at the Meadville Tournament.
Mercer Girls 63
Northwestern Girls 21

The top-seeded Mercer girls had no trouble dispatching of the eighth-seeded Northwestern girls, blowing them out by 42 points. Mercer was paced by Bailey Owens, who had 17 points, six steals and four assists. Nicole Kost added 15 points, six steals and three assists and Lindsay Wyatt had nine points, four assists and two steals.
With the win, Mercer improved to 15-1 on the season. The Lady Cardinals will be in semifinal action in Meadville on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Tina-Avalon Boys 66
Mercer Boys 52

The Mercer boys dropped a close one with Tina-Avalon in the first round, falling by 14 points. Trey Wilson led Mercer with 14 points and Cashman Hartley and Garrett Noe each scored 11 points. Mercer also got nine points from John Girdner.
With the loss, Mercer fell to 8-8 on the season. The Cardinals will play in the consolation semifinals on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.
Pattonsburg Girls 60
Tri-County Girls 9

The Tri-County girls were unable to unseat the top-seeded team at the Gilman Tournament, falling to 0-13 on the season with the loss.
The Lady Mustangs will now see consolation semifinal action in Gilman on Wednesday at 9 p.m. against East Harrison.
Princeton Boys 64
Pattonsburg Boys 45

The Tigers jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead and never looked back as they easily picked up a first-round win over Pattonsburg. Princeton was led by Brant Faulkner, who had 22 points in the win. Hunter Boxley added nine points and Steffan Elliott, Justin Hamilton and Adam McLain all scored eight points each.
With the win, the Tigers moved to 10-6 on the season and advanced to the Gilman Tournament semifinals, where they will face the winner of tonight’s Union Star-Gallatin junior varsity game. The semifinal match-up will be played at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Princeton Girls 55
East Harrison Girls 49

The Princeton girls also advanced to the semifinal round of the Gilman City Tournament, topping East Harrison in a close game. Princeton got 30 points from Paige Phillips and Trinity Kile added 12.
Princeton, now 6-10 on the season, will take on top-seeded Pattonsburg in the semifinals on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
East Harrison Boys 68
Gilman City boys 24

The Gilman City boys were unable to keep their game with top-seeded East Harrison close, falling to the consolation side of the bracket with a lopsided loss.
The Hawks fell to 0-14 on the season with the loss and will be in consolation semifinal action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
