E.J. “Mac” McNabb, Jr., 94, passed away Jan. 3, 2014 at Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Jan.10, 2013 at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, where a visitation will begin at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City.
Mr. McNabb was born March 2, 1919 in Galt, the son of E.J. “Dick” and Maggie Johnson McNabb. He grew up working on a farm and in 1941 joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a member of the artillery battalion in the Marshall Islands and Saipan. He was awarded two Bronze Campaign Stars and achieved the rank of corporal. Following the war he located in Kansas City, where he began working as an electrician for IBEW in 1947.
In 1948 he married Elizabeth Ann Schecher, who preceded him in death.
He began working as an electrician for IBEW Local Union 124 in 1950 and retired in 1982. He was a member of VFW Post N. 5606.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne (Nancy) McNabb and Ron (Kelly) McNabb; two grandchildren, Kyle (Jackie) McNabb and Kayt McNabb; a great-grandson, Gavin McNabb; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McNabb was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard F. McNabb; a grandson, Pierce C. McNabb; a brother, Trevlin McNabb; and two sisters, Helen McNabb Lowell and Mona McNabb Hamby.
Memorials are suggested to the Northland Meals on Wheels.
