Trophy games are set for the HDC Conference Tournament, being played this week in Jamesport, as the final semifinal and consolation semifinal games were played Thursday night. Both Mercer teams, the Tri-County boys, Gilman City girls and the Grundy R-5 girls were all in action.
Mercer Girls 43

The Mercer girls will be playing for a fifth-straight HDC Conference Tournament championship after fending off a tough Gilman City team in the semifinals. Gilman kept things interesting, but couldn’t quite overcome the top-seeded Lady Cardinals, falling by 11 points.
Mercer was paced by Nicole Kost, who scored 13 points, Lindsay Wyatt, who scored 12 points, and Bailey Owens, who scored 11 points. With the win, the Lady Cardinals improved to 4-0 on the season and will now play for the championship, which will be played at a later date to be determined due to inclement weather.
Gilman City was led by Morgan Reed who had a game-high 14 points in the loss. Gilman, now 3-4, will play for third place at a later date.

Mercer Boys 42
The Mercer boys were denied a trip to the championship game, falling to Winston by 14 points.
Mercer, which dropped to 1-3 on the season with the loss, was led by Trey Wilson who had 14 points and Cash Hartley added 12. Mercer will now play Grundy R-5 for third place at a later date.
Grundy R-5 Girls 51
East Harrison Girls 39
The Grundy girls picked up their first win of the season, defeating East Harrison by 12 points. Grundy led 13-11 after the opening quarter, but found itself trailing 27-22 at the break. A 16-5 run in the third quarter by the Lady Panthers turned the tide of the contest as Grundy picked up the win, keeping the Lady Panthers’ consolation hopes alive.
“A great second half allowed the girls to make it to the consolation finals,” Lady Panthers’ Head Coach Les Jackson said.
Grundy, now 1-4 overall, was led by 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals from Elizabeth Novak. Emily Milazzo added 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Matana Munday just missed a double-double with eight points and 14 rebounds, Mckenna Owens added five points and five rebounds and Kylie Littleton finished with five points and seven rebounds.”
Grundy will now play for the consolation title at a later date.
North Harrison Boys 69
Tri-County Boys 47
The Tri-County boys were eliminated from the tournament with a 22-point loss to North Harrison in the consolation semifinals.
Tri-County got 17 points from Dillon Cook in the loss and Nate Sutton and Tyler Lane scored 14 and 10 points respectively.
Tri-County fell to 4-5 on the season with the loss. The Mustangs will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 7, traveling to Winston for an HDC Conference doubleheader. Action tips off with the girls’ contest at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game will follow.
