A race has been created for a seat on the Trenton City Council with the filing of two candidates on Wednesday.
Incumbent Chuck Elliott of 1807 Eastview Drive filed for the two-year position on Wednesday morning. He will face Walter “Wally” Smith of 1804 Hillcrest in the April 8 election. Smith filed for the position on Wednesday afternoon.
Incumbent Larry Huffstutter filed for the fourth ward position on Tuesday, which was the first day candidates for the election could file. The terms of first ward councilman Jacob Black and second ward councilman Kenneth Ewing also expire.
Persons can file for the city council from now until Tuesday, Jan. 21 at city hall during regular business hours. City hall will be closed on Dec. 24-25, Dec. 31-Jan. 1 and Jan. 20.
