Katherine Marie Bonta, a 90-year old Trenton resident, died at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at the Living Center in Marshall, where she has resided since October 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Rev Barry Boulware will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens of Trenton.
Open visitation is under way at the mortuary.
Mrs. Bonta was born in Trenton on May 26, 1923 the daughter of Floyd and Imidee Childers Kirkwood. She graduated Trenton High School in 1941. She was married to Maynard W. Bonta in Trenton on July 3, 1943. She was an accomplished seamstress, secretary for Wesley United Methodist Church, the first employee of Modine Manufacturing as a personnel secretary and was an administrative assistant for Grundy Electric Cooperative, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and served on numerous boards and committees, was a member and was past president of the Business and Professional Women, Riverside Country Club and numerous bridge clubs. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, playing bridge, crosswords and dancing.
Mrs. Bonta is survived by her husband, Maynard Bonta of Trenton; a daughter, Sara Hargrave and her husband, Jim of Marshall; two grandchildren, Rob Hargrave of Marshall and Jamie Collins and her husband, Tyler of Jefferson City; and three great grandchildren, Alexis Hargrave, Logan Collins and Leighton Collins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
