Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-4 lead and continued to control the game through the second and third quarters, leading by 17 points entering the final frame. Trenton’s lead reached 20 before a late rally by Chillicothe made Trenton’s final margin of victory 10 points.
Whitley Richman finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals and Lana Raymo added 11 points, four assists and six steals. Jaylen Neff chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Tenna Roberts had three points, and seven steals. Jordain Oshel gave Trenton three rebounds. The win established a 1-0 start to the season for the freshmen girls, who make up a large part of the junior varsity team, which is 3-0.
Bulldogs
Trenton’s boys squad fell behind 11-6 in the opening quarter and trailed 22-15 at halftime. The Bulldogs were down by 10 points entering the fourth quarter. They gained some ground, but not enough to steal the victory.
“We got off to a slow start, but the boys hung in there to give themselves a chance at the end,” freshmen boys’ Coach Adam Clark said. “I was really proud of how the boys finished the game. We were down three scores with about 22 seconds left and our full-court pressure got us to within three points with eight seconds left. We had two three-point shots that fell short as time ran out on us. The boys never gave up, even when we had a few miscues on defense and one or two missed scoring opportunities in the fourth quarter. The boys left it all on the floor tonight.”
Connor Cotton led Trenton with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists and Spencer Harris added 11 points, six rebounds and two steals. Tucker Franklin added seven points and two steals and Jonathan Lamp had six points and two steals. Alex Parrack had one point to round out Trenton’s total and Nate Swann had three assists.
With the loss, The Trenton freshmen boys established an 0-1 start to the season.
Trenton’s next lower varsity action will be on Thursday as Trenton takes on Lawson in a freshmen boys-only match-up. The game will follow a girls match-up between Lawson and Lexington at 6 p.m.
