Arvel Eugene Hendrickson, a 73-year-old resident of Princeton, died on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at his home southwest of Princeton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton. Pastor Victor Buntin will officiate. Burial will be in the Payne Cemetery, north of Modena.
Visitation will begin at the funeral chapel at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Mr. Hendrickson was born on Oct. 2, 1940 on a farm north of Modena, the son of Earl Eugene and Hildred Irene Nigh Hendrickson. He was a lifelong resident of Mercer County, where he was a 1959 graduate of Princeton High School. After high school, he worked as a welder and machinist for Lark and Son in Eagleville. In 1966, he went to work for Hallett Quarries in Bethany and later for Davis and Snyder Quarries and Raid’s Quarries. In 1978, he opened his own welding and repair shop on his farm west of Modena.
He served on the Madison Township Board for 18 years. He enjoyed going to auctions and buying old tractors.
Mr. Hendrickson was married on June 3, 1961 to Donna Mae Parkhurst, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by a daughter, Peggy Jean Herring and her husband, Dale of Grandview; his two sons, Arvel Eugene Hendrickson Jr. of rural Princeton and Joseph Edward Hendrickson and his companion, Mary of Bethany; his mother, Irene Hendrickson of Princeton; twin sisters, Deloris Parkhurst of Princeton, and Delaine Ploessel of Leon, IA; two granddaughters, Ashley Marie Herring of Joplin and Dallas Lee Bake and her husband, Ken of Colorado Springs, CO; a great-grandchild due in May; and by other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; a nephew; five brothers-in-law; and by a sister-in-law.
