Richard Tapscott, a 65-year-old former Trenton resident, died on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013.
A private family memorial services is planned for Thursday morning, Dec. 5, 2013. A family visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.
Mr. Tapscott was born on March 17, 1948 in Trenton, the son of Farrell and Margaret Ellis Tapscott. He graduated from Trenton High School, the University of Missouri School of Journalism and worked for several newspapers, including the Trenton Republican-Times, the Washington Post, the Des Moines Register, The Kansas City Star and other newspapers in Wilmington, DE, Wichita, KS, Oklahoma City, OK and Fayetteville, NC. He retired from the newspaper business in 2007 and began teaching at Drake University.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara; children, Graham (Tiffany) Tapscott, Blaine (Colleen) Tapscott and Amy Tapscott; grandchildren, Iain, Brady and Quinn Tapscott; siblings, Robert (Evelyn) Tapscott, Ronald (Doris) Tapscott and Shirley (Tom) Trainer; sisters-in-law, Linda (Gary) Dreessen and Susan Musfeldt; brothers-in-law, Steve and Dale (Vicky) Musfeldt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication Scholarship Fund in honor of Mr. Tapscott. They can be sent to the funeral home at 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA 50266.
