The Trenton Middle School basketball teams were in action at home on Monday night, playing host to Chillicothe. The night was a split as Trenton took two of the four games played. Trenton got wins from its A girls team, which beat Chillicothe 39-28, and the boys B team, which won 22-17. Trenton was defeated in the Boys A game 49-18 and lost the girls B game 34-4.
Lady Bulldogs
In the girls A game, Trenton jumped out to an early lead and remained in front throughout the contest. Trenton scored the victory behind some very good guard play as Ainsley Tolson led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points and Mykah Hurley added 13. Trenton also got five points from Salem Croy, four from Ashten Whitaker and two from Taylor Richman.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs kept their spotless record intact, moving to 5-0.
Trenton B team girls struggled in their contest with Chillicothe, falling 34-4. The loss dropped the B team girls to 0-3 overall on the season.
Bulldogs
Trenton’s A team boys didn’t have much luck against a larger Chillicothe team. The Bulldogs trailed 14-2 after the opening quarter of play, but battled back to trail just 24-14 by halftime. Chillicothe buried the Bulldogs with a 19-0 run in the third quarter and then coasted through the final frame on the way to the 31-point victory.
Lathan Croy had six points, five rebounds and three steals to lead Trenton and Jarren King added four points, a rebound and three steals. Kade Ockenfels gave the Bulldogs four points and a rebound, Cole Schilling had two points and a steal, Jadan Whitney finished with two points and two rebounds, Hunter Dugan had two steals, Isaac Harris had two rebounds, Colton Colston had a rebound and a steal and Nick Shields had a rebound.
With the loss, the Trenton boys fell to 1-4 overall on the season.
Trenton’s B boys were able to come away with a win over Chillicothe, defeating the Hornets by five points. Trenton was led by Isaac Harris who had nine points and three steals, and Jadan Whitney had seven points, four rebounds and four steals. Rodney Lawrence added four points and four rebounds, Trevor Waggoner had two points, James Knight had two points, Austin Admire had three rebounds, Tony Garcia had three rebounds and Hunter Trask had one rebound.
“We played hard all four quarters tonight,” Trenton B boys’ Coach Mike Tipton said. “Our boys worked hard for this win and each and every player made a contribution to the victory.”
With the win, the Trenton B boys record improved to 1-2 on the year.
Trenton’s middle school squads now have a week break before they next return to the court on Monday, Dec. 2. Trenton’s teams will travel to Unionville to take on Putnam County in another four-game set. Action tips off with the girls B game at 4:30 p.m.
