The Trenton girls grabbed an early lead, but Cameron was able to keep the game close until the middle of the third quarter. Trenton pushed its advantage to eight points behind some fast-break points and then used a 9-6 run late in the game to pick up a 10-point victory.
Whitley Richman led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Tenna Roberts added eight points and four rebounds and Jaylen Neff had four points and two rebounds. Lana Raymo finished with a point and Jordain Oshel gave the Lady Bulldogs three rebounds and two assists.
The win established a 1-0 start to the season for the Lady Bulldogs.
Bulldogs
The Trenton boys jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter, but Cameron closed the gap to just two points by halftime as Trenton clung to a 25-23 lead. The two-point lead remained the difference after the third quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored Cameron 12-8 in the final frame to pull away slightly for a six-point win.
“For our first game I thought we did several things pretty well,” Bulldogs’ Coach Adam Clark said. “Our rebounding and ball movement were really good. We also saw some things to work on. Offensive execution and our press defense are a work in progress. Overall though, I was very pleased with the effort of the boys and I thought we handled late game pressure pretty well for the first game of the year.”
Kail McCarter led the Bulldogs with 14 points, two steals and an assist. Spencer Harris had 10 points and eight rebounds and Aaron Anderson finished with eight points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists. Connor Cotton had eight points, a steal and two assists and Brice Dillon had six points, seven rebounds and four steals. Trenton also got two points from Colton Ellis.
With the win, the Trenton JV boys established a 1-0 record.
Trenton’s JV girls team is back in action tonight, playing East Buchanan at home in a girls-only match-up prior to a varsity doubleheader between the schools. Tip off is set for 5 o’clock. Both teams take on Putnam County on Monday, Dec. 2, at home at 6 p.m.
