Jack Dean Small, a 57-year-old resident of Boone, IA, died at the University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA, on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013.
Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone. Following the service, his body will be cremated.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home, with the family visitation to begin at noon.
Mr. Small was born on Jan. 3, 1956 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Clarence and Waunita Mills Small. He was married in Boone on Sept. 20, 2003 to Irene Hoyt Tesdahl. Since 1995, he had worked as a custodian for Iowa State University in Ames, IA.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of Boone; a stepson, Corey Tesdahl of Ames; a stepdaughter, Heather Tesdahl and fiance, Adam Born of Gilbert, IA; three sisters, Joyce Young and her husband, Bill of Colo, IA and Janice Hamilton and Marilyn Burkeybile and her fiance, Glenn Williams, all of Trenton; a brother Dennis Thompson of Des Moines; a grandchild due in April; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Dave Burkeybile and Pat Hamilton; and a special nephew, Bob Young.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be used at their discretion.
