Edwin G. Chaney, a 71-year-old Gilman City resident, died at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, Oct. 28, 2013) at Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Burial was held in the Willis Chapel Cemetery near Brimson.
Mr. Chaney was born on Dec. 16, 1941 in Trenton, the son of David Herman and Goldie Beatrice Chaney. He attended Melbourne and Gilman City schools.
He was married at Laredo on Dec. 21, 1962 to Mary Dowell. He was a well-known mechanic in the area and enjoyed automobile sports, including demolition derbies and tractor pulls. The couple also enjoyed attending local auctions.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; six sons, Herman and his wife, Melanie of Cainsville, George and his wife, Nancy of Gilman City, Rex and his wife Christine, of Brimson, Delbert of Gilman City, Virgil of Brimson and Ricky of Melbourne; a daughter, Patricia Hedden of Independence; a sister, Mildred Rose Chaney of Trenton; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donnie L. Chaney; a son-in-law John Hedden; and two brothers, David Jr. and Arthur.
Memorial donations may be used for funeral expenses and left with or mailed to the funeral home.
