The Trenton junior varsity football team ended its 2013 season with a victory Monday night as the Bulldogs traveled to and defeated Marceline 20-14.
The Bulldogs fell behind 6-0 early when Marceline scored the game’s first points in the opening quarter on a eight-yard touchdown run. Trenton would respond, however, scoring twice in the second quarter. Jonathan Lamp ran the ball in from 27 yards out and Logan Shuler added an eight-yard touchdown run. Lamp ran in a two-point conversion after the second score and Trenton led 14-6 at halftime.
Marceline tied the game in the fourth quarter, but with 2:30 left in the game, Lamp broke loose for a 58-yard touchdown run. An interception by Connor Cotton with 32 seconds left sealed the win for Trenton.
“Our defense played one of their best games of the year,” THS JV Coach Greg Dalrymple said. “Our kids played well. It seemed like whenever we needed a play someone stepped up and made a play.”
The JV team finished the year with a 3-4 record.
