The first battle for the middle school Sugar Bucket belonged to Chillicothe as the Hornets took full advantage of costly Trenton turnovers en route to a 36-6 victory in the final middle school football game of the season for the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
Trenton fumbled three times and had a botched punt on its first four possessions of the game and the Hornets made the most of the Trenton miscues, scoring all four times to take a commanding lead.
Trenton finally settled down and put a drive together in the second quarter, one that ended with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Mason Owen to Colten Colston. The second half was much more uneventful as Chillicothe held on to take the 36-6 win.
In the celebration that ensued for the victorious Hornets, the Sugar Bucket, being awarded for the first time at the middle school level, was dropped and consequently broken.
A “B” game was held between the two teams, which Chillicothe also won, 30-6. Trenton again struggled turning over the ball, but did score once on a seven-yard touchdown run by Tray Webb.
“In all honesty this was a very difficult way to end this season,” Trenton Head Coach Brandon Boswell said. “I truly believed this team was better than their 3-3 record. I told the kids that I appreciated them and I encouraged them to commit to getting better and doing great things for Trenton football in the future.”
The TMS football team finished the season with a 3-3 record.
