Ivan Keith Gates, a 75-year-old resident of Gilman City, died on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Liberty Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany. Burial with military rites will be in Fairview Cemetery at Bethany.
A family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 at the funeral home, where general visitation begins at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Mr. Gates was born on April 1, 1938 in Jamesport, the son of George and Lola Meek Gates.
He was married at Bethany on June 24, 1961, to Mary Belle Bennum, who survives at the home. He farmed most of his life in the Gilman City area. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 8, 1961 to Feb. 7, 1964 as a Specialist 4th Class.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Allen Gates of Gilman City; and god-daughter, Clarice (Alan) Smith and their children, Dylon Pemberton, Bradley and Thomas Smith; a daughter, Marsha (Roy) Clemens of Stet; a granddaughter, Delta Clemens; a brother, Francis (Vera Mae) Gates of Iowa; a sister, Esther Miller of Kearney; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Gates of Gallatin and Maudine Bennum of New Hampton; a brother-in-law, Gerald Bennum of Coffey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Dan, Lester, Herman and Wilbur Gates; and a sister, June Gates.
