Oct 9, 2013 | School Board, School News

The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education met on Tuesday night and took care of several items.
Superintendent Tiffany Otto said the board approved the investment of $300,000 in a certificate of deposit with Putnam County State Bank in Milan and increased the substitute pay for kitchen staff from $50 to $60. The board also discussed an upcoming field trip for third through eighth grade students to Eagle Days School Day on Dec. 6 to the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge near Mound City.
Several items were discussed and approved during the superintendent’s report, including districtwide curriculum revision being completed during teacher professional development days to comply with the new Missouri Learning Standards, the transition of student information and teacher grading into the new TeacherEase student information system, and a plan to send two staff members and the administrator to training on a new educator evaluation system. The board also approved a seventh and eighth grade ELA textbook adoption for the 2013-14 school year.
Bids for snow removal will be sought for this winter season and anyone interested is asked to contact Mrs. Otto for specifications. Sealed bids will be collected until Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
During an executive session, the board voted to remain in the Parents as Teachers co-op and thus approved Kayla Slater and Laura Hanes as the new PAT educators.
The Pleasant View School will dismiss early this Friday at 1:20 p.m. for teacher professional development. The first seventh and eighth grade basketball game will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The next regular board meeting will be held on Friday, Nov. 15.
