The Missouri Department of Social Services will sponsor a free eye screening clinic in Trenton on Friday, Oct. 25.
The clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m to 3 p.m. at the Grundy County Health Department, 1716 Lincoln St. Those attending are asked to use the community room entrance, located on the lower level.
The examinations will be conducted by the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics’ Department of Ophthalmology of Columbia, with assistance from the DSS Prevention of Blindness Unit. While they cannot write prescriptions for glasses, persons attending the clinics will be screened for such visual disorders as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, as well as malformations or malfunctions of the eye, such as strabismus (crossed eyes) and other vision problems.
Those attending the clinic who are diagnosed as having a visual problem requiring specific treatment and further examination will be referred to local eye specialists for follow-up. Individuals who meet Prevention of Blindness program eligibility guidelines will be assisted by POB program staff with necessary eye care services.
Interested persons are advised to call early to schedule an appointment since the clinic will be cancelled if there is not enough community interest. To schedule appointments for the free eye screenings prior to the clinic date persons may call the Grundy County Health Department at 359-4196.
