The Trenton Fire Department is sponsoring a pet disaster preparedness class on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Emergency Services Complex.
The class provides certification for individuals in dog and cat first aid and CPR. Topics and skills covered include preparing for a disaster with your pet, assembling a pet first aid kit, making a disaster plan to include your pet, recognizing a pet emergency, pet first responder safety, primary assessment, assessing a pet’s vitals, snout-toptail assessment for injury, rescue breathing and dog/car CPR, choking management, insect bites and stings, snake bites, heat and cold injuries and seizures.
There is a $35 charge, which includes the cost of materials. Certification from the class is for life.
Persons must be 14 years or older to participate. Participants do not need to bring their animals.
