Hay Bale Decorating Contest

Hay bale decorating has been added to the Missouri Day Festival this year in connection with the festival’s agriculture theme.
Persons are encouraged to decorate round bales, square bales or a combination of the two with a unique creation. The contest is open to participants countywide. Entries can be left on the entrant’s property or they can be brought to the east end of the Orscheln Farm and Home Supply parking lot for judging.
Registration is required to be judged for prizes, which are being provided by Orscheln’s and persons can register at the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office, 617 Main St. A registration form is available online at www.trentonmochamber.com. The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 11.
Friday is also the deadline for persons to enter the 2013 Missouri Day Quilt Show. The Scrappy Quilters Guild is sponsoring the event, which will be held Oct. 19-20 in the old JCPenney building at the Eastgate Shopping Center.
This deadline is only for the paper entry form that provides information about your quilted item. Your entered item should then be taken to the Trenton Republican-Times Office by Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Entry forms can be picked up at the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office or by visiting the Scrappy Quilters website at www.scrappyquilters.com.
There are many categories in the quilt show this year, including bed quilts, quilted wall hangings, table runners, specialty quilts, vintage quilts, quilted clothing, purses and accessories. There is also an option to have your entry judged by a panel of qualified judges for a fee of $5.
Children are also encouraged to participate in the quilt show this year. There will be a youth division in all categories for children up to 16 years of age. The youth division will not be a judged competition.
Cash prizes will be awarded in the judged competition and various gift baskets will be awarded in the non-judged and youth divisions.
