The Princeton Lady Tigers came up short Thursday night, dropping a Grand River Conference match-up with Gallatin at the Derry Sports Complex, 11-1.
Gallatin wasted little time getting on the board, scoring once in the top of the first inning and tacking on two more runs in the second. Gallatin stretched the lead to 7-0 before Princeton scored it’s only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gallatin answered with three more runs in the top of the seventh, then held Princeton scoreless in the bottom of the final inning to take the 11-1 win.
Princeton was only able to collect five hits in the game and drew four walks. Shaylee Henley scored the team’s lone run.
Chelsie Jones took the loss in the circle, but didn’t get much help from her defense. The Lady Tigers committed seven errors in the game. Jones threw seven innings allowing six earned runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out eight.
On Saturday, the Princeton girls played in the Albany Tournament, picking up two wins against one loss.
Game one saw Princeton fall to the Gallatin girls for a second time, this time an 8-1 loss.
Chelsie Jones got the loss for the Lady Tigers, giving up four earned runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out two. Henley led the offense with two hits and scored the team’s only run. The Lady Tigers got their other hit from Rachelle Parks.
Princeton bounced back in game two, scoring 16 runs to down GRC rival Albany 16-2 in four innings.
Jones got the win for the Lady Tigers, giving up no runs on no hits and striking out seven. Albany got their two runs off Maddie Enright, who came in and pitched in the fourth inning for Princeton.
Henley had three hits on the day while driving in five runs and scoring twice. Parks had a double and a single and scored four times while Kianna Kinnison had three RBI’s for the Lady Tigers. Driving in two runs each were Kelsey Batson and Kotie Mogler. Trinity Kile also had two hits.
Princeton also took the third game of the day, an 8-1 win over North Harrison.
Jones was the winning pitcher, giving up one run on four hits while striking out four and walking three.
Ashton Summers had two hits for Princeton, a single and a double and drove in a run. Rebecca Phillips collected two singles and scored two runs and Henley had a double and an RBI.
The Lady Tigers are now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the GRC. They will host Chillicothe in a 5:30 game tonight at the Derry Sports Complex.
