Rhonda Watkins and Donna Herdrich presented the program on the Calamity Jane Day Festival at Princeton during Thursday’s meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Steve Maxey was the program chairman.
The Calamity Jane Day Festival is Sept. 20-22 and includes a number of activities. “Honoring Our Military” is the theme of the event, which features a display of Missouri military killed in action during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The display will be at the Mercer County Courthouse.
Other events include a tractor cruise and rodeo on Friday; a breakfast, parade, musical entertainment, music contests, melodrama performances, the Shoot-Out Gang, a quilt show, a kids pedal tractor pull and a dance on Saturday; and a car show and musical entertainment on Sunday.
Both Ms. Watkins and Ms. Herdrich discussed the city band tax, which provides funds for live musical performances held within the city limits. The tax money allows other funds to be freed up for other events.
During the business meeting, Jeff Crowley reminded members of the fish fry on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Rock Barn. Members signed up to set-up and work. The movie, “We Bought a Zoo,” will be shown at dusk and there will also be a silent auction, with funds raised going to Rotary International for projects supported by the local club.
Steve Maxey reported that flags for the Missouri Day Parade are still being sold. He also said that a meeting of the parade committee is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri.
Next week’s program chairman is Becky Albrecht.
