The Trenton Lady Bulldogs softball team improved to 2-0 on Tuesday night as it traveled to Lawson and picked up a 12-0 victory over the Lady Cardinals in five innings.
Trenton wasted little time as McKinley Hurley led off the top of the first inning with a single, stole second and third and scored on Makaila Capeder’s single. Cassidy Cotton and Ally Ockenfels drove in a run each as well as the Lady Bulldogs plated three runs in the top of the first.
Things got worse for the home team in the third inning as the Lady Cardinals committed five errors, leading to six more Trenton runs. The Lady Bulldogs put up their final three runs in the fourth.
Hurley finished the night three-for-three with two runs scored and four steals and Capeder was three-for-four with a double and three RBIs. Megan Lynch was one-for-two with two runs scored, Ockenfels was two-for-three with two runs scored as well and an RBI and Tosha Wilson went two-for-two with a run scored.
On the mound, Mallory Hooyman limited Lawson to just three base runners in her five innings pitched. She allowed just two hits and struck out six.
“Our lineup did a great job working deep into at bats and hitting with runners on,” Trenton Head Coach John Cowling said. “Mallory had great control tonight and did a good job getting ahead of hitters and our defense backed her up.”
The Trenton junior varsity followed the varsity’s lead, defeating the Lawson JV squad 22-1. Daryian Otto was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs on three hits while striking out four in four innings pitched.
Hannah Kennebeck was two-for-four with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored and Mason Hooyman went three-for-three with three RBIs and three runs scored. Abby Miller was 1-for-1 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored while Katerina Black went two-for-two with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored and Emily Lynch was two-for-three with a double and two RBIs. Tenna Roberts was one-for-three with two RBIs and a run and Aryi Ortiz was two-for-three with an RBI and a run.
