Entries Sought For Missouri Day Quilt Show

Sep 4, 2013 | Missouri Day

The Scrappy Quilters Guild is hosting a quilt show during the Missouri Day Festival on Oct. 18-20.
The theme for this year’s festival is “Celebrating Our Agriculture Heritage” and this year’s show will be held at the former JCPenney building in the Eastgate Shopping Center. The show will have both judged and non-judged categories and new this year will be a special division for youth under the age of 16.
Entries for the show are now being taken until Friday, Sept. 20. There will be no late entries allowed this year.
Vendors are also being sought for the show and those interested in being a vendor can find more information at www.scrappyquilters.com.
Special features for this year’s show, along with the quilt display and vendors, include a silent auction, a silk scarf-dying class and handmade items available for purchase in the “Quilted Corner Gift Show.”
Hours for the show this year will include a pre-show on Friday, Oct. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 1 p.m. on Sunday, the scarf dying class will be held, led by Cyndi Johnson. The cost is $20 and pre-registration is required. All supplies will be provided for the class, which has a size limit of 20.
Tickets are also available to win the guild’s “Opportunity Quilt,” which will be given away on Oct. 20. A contest is currently under way to allow the public to name the quilt, which was designed and constructed by guild members, using the theme of this year’s festival as a guideline. Persons wanting to enter a name for consideration can send their entry to the guild email address, [email protected], or make an entry at the business where the quilt is on display. The quilt will be at US Bank until Sept. 6, then be moved to Farmer’s State Bank from Sept. 9 to 13 and then at Farmer’s Bank of Northern Missouri from Sept. 16-20. The Republican-Times will have the quilt displayed from Sept. 21 to Oct. 18. The quilt will also be on display during the Calamity Jane Day Festival at Princeton later this month. The entry deadline is Sept. 30, with the winner being selected by guild members at their October meeting.
The winner of the naming contest will receive a $25 gift certificate and three tickets for a chance to win the quilt.
For quilt entry forms, vendor forms and deadline information, persons can go to www.scrappyquilters.com or e-mail questions to [email protected]. To pre-register for the dying class, contact Mrs. Johnson at [email protected] (in the subject line, put Scarf Dying Class).
