Galt Council Sets Levy

Aug 28, 2013 | City Council

The Galt City Council met on Tuesday night, setting the city tax levy and approving utility rate increases.
City Clerk Mary Young said the council set the tax levy at $1 on the $100 assessed valuation, which is the same as a year ago. The levy is anticipated to raise around $8,735 in local revenues.
Because of an increase to the city of Galt by the Grundy County Public Water Supply District for the cost of water, the council agreed to pass that cost along to customers. After the minimum 1,000 gallons is reached, customers will then see an 18 percent increase in water costs, beginning with the August bill. Also being increased are the electric rates, which will go up one-half cent per kilowatt after the first 200 kilowatts, and sewer rates, which will go up to $3.74 per gallon after reaching the minimum cost of $10. These rates will also go into effect with the August billing.
The council will next meet on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
