Enrollments Mixed As Area Districts Return To Class

Enrollment was mixed at several area school districts where classes started this morning. Enrollment was up slightly at Tri-County and Spickard, while decreases were seen at Pleasant View R-6, Newtown-Harris and Princeton and Laredo saw enrollment remain steady.
Pleasant View R-6
At Pleasant View R-6, enrollment this morning was 70 students in grades kindergarten through eight, down one from last year. There are also 20 students in enrolled in the district’s preschool program. The largest class is the kindergarten, which has 12 students, while the smallest class is the seventh grade with three students.
Enrollment, by grade, is kindergarten, 12; first grade, 7; second grade, 10; third grade, 10; fourth grade, 10; fifth grade, 6; sixth grade, 8; seventh grade, 3; and eighth grade, 4.
Laredo R-7
Enrollment at the Laredo R-7 School remained steady at 62 students, which was the same number reported to the R-T on the first day last year. The largest class is the second grade, which has 11 students, while the smallest class is the kindergarten, which has four. There are also four preschool students.
Enrollment, by grade, is kindergarten, 4; first grade, 8; second grade, 11; third grade, 7; fourth grade, 8; fifth grade, 6; sixth grade, 7; seventh grade, 6; and eighth grade, 5.
Spickard R-2
Enrollment at Spickard R-2 on the first day of class was 43, which includes preschool. The district had 33 enrolled on the first day last year, but that did not include preschool students. Enrollment, by classroom, is pre-school/kindergarten, 8; first/second grades, 15; third/fourth grades, 10; and fifth/sixth grades, 10.
Newtown-Harris
Enrollment at Newtown-Harris was at 92 this morning, down from 101 reported on the first day of class last year. There are 45 students in the elementary, with 47 in the junior high/high school. The largest class is the senior class, which has 10 students, while the smallest class is the fourth grade with four students.
Enrollment, by grade, is kindergarten, 5; first grade, 9; second grade, 8; third grade, 7; fourth grade, 4; fifth grade, 7; sixth grade, 5; seventh grade, 8; eighth grade, 6; freshmen, 7; sophomores, 9; juniors, 7; and seniors, 10.
Tri-County R-7
Enrollment is up slightly at Tri-County R-7 School at Jamesport, with 146 students reporting for class on the first day. That number is up two students from what was reported to the R-T last year. There are 70 students in the grades kindergarten through five at the elementary building, with 76 students in grades six through 12. In addition, there are 24 students in the preschool, which is an increase of five students over last year. The largest class is the kindergarten with 18 students, while the smallest class is the junior class, which has six students.
Enrollment, by grade, is kindergarten, 18; first grade, 11; second grade, 13; third grade, 7; fourth grade, 13; fifth grade, 8; sixth grade, 14; seventh grade, 12; eighth grade, 10; freshmen, 12; sophomores, 12; juniors, 6; and seniors, 10.
Princeton R-5
At Princeton R-5, school started today with 367 students enrolled, a decrease of 15 over the number reported to the R-T on the first day last year. The largest class is the seventh grade, which has 36 students, while the smallest class is the fourth grade with 19.
Enrollment, by grade, is kindergarten, 22; first grade, 28; second grade, 26; third grade, 24; fourth grade, 19; fifth grade, 33; sixth grade, 22; seventh grade, 36; eighth grade, 32; freshmen, 33; sophomores, 25; juniors, 35; and seniors, 32.
