R-6 Board OKs Tax Levy

Aug 15, 2013 | School Board

The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education conducted its annual tax rate hearing followed by a regular meeting on Tuesday night.
The board reviewed the 2013 assessed valuation provided from local county clerks from Grundy and Livingston counties. The district saw an increase of approximately $250,000 in the assessed valuation, bringing the total to $8,365,510. Of this amount, nearly $1 million is shown in commercial property for Wright Memorial Physicians group, which is currently protesting their assessment to the State Tax Commission. A discussion regarding the loss of over $40,000 in tax revenue due to this protest was held, followed by the approval of a tax rate of $4.3312.
During the regular meeting, the board approved the Annual Secretary of the Board report, the free and reduced lunch and breakfast requirements, the 2013-14 class schedule and conducted the second reading of MSBA recommended policy updates. Approval of the bus routes was tabled until the September meeting. A statement was also added to the consent items by a board member regarding a previous meeting.
The superintendent’s report included information regarding preliminary MSIP5 APR results, the impact of HB 253, and the progress of changes being made to the food service program to meet federal and state regulations.
The board met in closed session to discuss student matters and personnel with no action taken.
