The Trenton Rotary Club installed its new officers and board members for the coming year during Thursday’s meeting.
The new president is Gary Black. Other officers are Sarah Maloney, vice president; Jean Peace, secretary; and Jerri Manuel, treasurer. New board members for three years are Teresa Cross, Mary Easter and Gary Jordan. Outgoing president Joe Brinser will stay on the board as a liaison.
Tim Laffoon of Liberty, chairman of the Youth Study Exchange Program for District 6040, presented the program. He talked about the long-term and short-term exchange programs offered by Rotary. It was announced that five students from Trenton have expressed interest in the outbound exchange program with three of those students, Alex Davis, Franny Infranca and Winston Mackey, there to hear the presentation. The long-term program is for a year while the short-term exchange is from four to six weeks, done usually in the summer. Costs for the program are assumed by the student, however, local clubs sponsoring the student may help with expenses. Laffoon’s daughter, Katrina, also spoke about the exchange program. She spent one year in Ecuador after having graduated from high school a year early. She talked about her experiences and how she was able to learn about various points of view from those students she met while involved in the program. Rotary has exchange arrangements in over 40 foreign countries.
During the business meeting, invitations to the district rotary picnic on Aug. 18 and the Barton Farm Campus signage dedication on Sept. 13 were read. Teresa Cross announced business seminars being held on the NCMC campus and sponsored by NCMC, the city of Trenton and the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce. Club members were also invited to take part in the NCMC Alumni Golf Tournament in August.
Next week’s program will feature Scott Keith, who will tell about the cultural tour to Italy he organized through NCMC.
