Jenny Rose Bennett Wood, an 89-year-old resident of Columbia and former resident of Chillicothe, died on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Lenoir Health Care Center in Columbia.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in the Maitland Cemetery at Maitland.
Mrs. Wood was born on Nov. 16, 1923 in Graham, the daughter of Gordon and Bessie Porter Bennett. She graduated from Maryville High School in 1941. She then graduated from the University Of Missouri School Of Journalism in Columbia.
She was married on Feb. 2,1951 in Jefferson City to Harold Lloyd Wood, who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1998. She was employed at the Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Chillicothe and Chapter T of the PEO Sisterhood. She was also a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Columbia.
Mrs. Wood worked with others to start Peter Pan School and Camp Rainbow in the early 1960’s in Chillicothe and continued her advocacy for disabled children and adults throughout her life.
Survivors include one son, David Wood and his wife, Gail of St. Louis; one daughter, Nancy Minchillo and her husband, Joseph of Plano, TX; and three granddaughters, Abby and Millie Wood, and Madeline Rose Minchillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold; one daughter Ann; two brothers, Lawrence Bennett and Ellis Bennett; and two sisters, Hannah Lou Bennett and Elizabeth “Bunty” Hartwig.
