Mudcats Guaranteed Winning Season

The Chillicothe Mudcats guaranteed themselves a winning record Friday night, picking up a 13-2 win over the Joplin Outlaws. With the win the Mudcats improved to 24-21 with just two games left on the season. Chillicothe has now had a winning record in all 12 years of the Mudcats existence.
With the game tied at 3-3 after three innings of play, the Mudcats’ offense went off for five runs in the fourth inning to break the game wide open. Chillicothe would plate three more runs in the fifth and two in the eighth, pulling away for a dominating win at home at Shaffer Park.
Nathan Lukes and Trevor Jones had three hits each and combined to drive in five runs to lead the Chillicothe offense. Paul Trenhaile, Austin Bello and Tyler Langley each had two hits in the contest. As a team the Mudcats had 13 hits, five of which went for extra bases. Kyler Offenbacker and Langley each tripled in the game and Dane Fujinaka, Tanner Bily and Trenhaile all had doubles.
Brian Taricska came on in relief in the fifth inning and threw the final five frames of the game, allowing no runs on just two hits and two walks on his way to the win. Starter Tanner Irwin threw the opening four innings for the Mudcats, allowing two runs.
The Mudcats followed up the win Friday with an 18-6 win over Joplin on Saturday, completing the three-game sweep. Chillicothe, now 25-21 overall and 19-20 in MINK League play, will take on St. Joseph tonight at Shaffer Park for their final game of the season. The first pitch for the season finale is scheduled for 7 o’clock.
