Laredo Aldermen Pass Three Ordinances

Jul 12, 2013 | Area News, Headline News

Three ordinances were passed by the Laredo Board of Aldermen during a meeting Tuesday night, with the ordinances affecting utility deposits, employment vacancies and the city clerk’s salary and hours.
According to City Clerk Lisa McCullough, the board passed an ordinance that sets the utility deposit for property owners at $103. If a property is being rented, the property owner will pay the $103 deposit, with the renter to pay an additional $203, for a total deposit on that property of $306. The final bill will be taken from the renter’s deposit when the service is disconnected. A landlord will only pay the deposit on the property once.
Another ordinance ap-proved revises the salary for the city clerk, setting it at $10 per hour for a minimum of three days and 15 hours per week. The clerk will receive holiday pay for recognized city holidays and will also be paid $10 per hour for a maximum of 12 hours additional per month if needed due to the workload.
A third ordinance deals with employment vacancies within the city and states that when a position becomes available, it is the responsibility of the city clerk to notify the board of aldermen. Once it has been approved by the board to fill the vacancy, a notice of vacancy approved by the board will be posted in the local newspaper as well as at city hall and the Laredo post office for at least two weeks. A job description will be posted at city hall and the post office and will be provided to all interested persons at city hall. After the posting period, the mayor is to call a special meeting of the board to fill the position.
A fourth ordinance, which addressed vacancies on the board, was tabled. The proposed ordinance states that when there is a vacancy on the board, a notice will be placed in the local newspaper as well as posted at city hall and the post office for at least one month. After the posting period, the mayor may call a special meeting to fill the vacancy according to board policies and Missouri state statutes. The person selected would serve until the next regular election.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
