Ruth Lucile Otto Boehner, an 89-year-old Newtown, resident died at 11:30 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Long Term Care Center in Milan.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Monday, July 1, 2013) at the Newtown Christian Church in Newtown. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery at Harris.
Mrs. Boehner was born on Sept. 26, 1923 near Plover, IA, the daughter of Wilbur H. and Bessie M. Otto Roberts. She was married on Nov. 2, 1940 to Willard L. Otto, who preceded her in death on April 2, 1988. She was married on July 28, 1990 to John Boehner, who preceded in death on Jan. 13, 1997.
Mrs. Boehner spent much of her life as a cook both for the school and the three restaurants she had owned and operated. She also worked for a rental business and convenience store. At the age of 60 she received her GED after not being allowed to graduate high school because she was married two weeks prior to graduation. At this time she learned computers and worked for the City of Milan, Shatto Oil, and the DFS as a processor of Energy Assistance applications for Sullivan and Putnam counties. In her spare time, she assisted Marcella Fairley in her catering business. She was a member of the Newtown Christian Church, the Harris Town and Country Club, the quilting club and served on the Sullivan County OATS Board. Her strong work ethic and caring nature is a wonderful example she has left her family and friends.
Surviving relatives include her eight children; Ivan Otto of Newtown, Jerry Otto and his wife, Virginia of Laurens, IA, Barbara Metcalf and her husband, Gary of Newtown, Art Otto and his wife, Janice of Newtown, Bill Otto and his wife, Karen of Newtown, Teresa Pauley of Centerville, IA, Tim Otto and his wife, Julie of Dearborn and Willie Otto and his wife, Kim of Marshfield; sisters, Sharon Scott and her husband, Conrad of Colo, IA and Ida Stafford of Litchfield, IA; a brother, Charles Otto of Glendale, AZ,; a sister-in-law, Mary Joy Roberts of Rolfe, IA, 31 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Miller Parsons; a grandson, Brian W. Pauley; and a great-granddaughter, Rian Wilson.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Harris Cemetery or the Newtown Christian Church and may be left with Payne Funeral Home of Galt.
