For a second-straight weekend, the Chillicothe Mudcats reeled off four straight wins. The Mudcats topped the Sedalia Bombers on Friday night, then picked up a three-game sweep over the Ozark Generals Saturday and Sunday, all coming at home.
Chillicothe got the run started on Friday night with an offensive explosion, defeating Sedalia 18-5 at Shaffer Park. Tanner Bily highlighted Chillicothe’s offensive output, going four-for-six, and David Zorn drove in a team-high four RBIs. Chillicothe totaled 21 hits in the win, which Derek Birginske got credit for on the hill as he threw five innings.
Saturday saw the Mudcats play a doubleheader, the first two games of a three-game set with the visiting Ozark Generals. Chillicothe took the opener 6-2 behind an outstanding effort on the hill by Andrew Bramley. Bramley threw a seven-inning complete game. Bily drove in three runs for the Mudcats and Paul Trenhaile scored two runs. Both were two-for-two at the plate.
Game two was another win as the Mudcats topped Ozark 9-4. Jon Glidewell was the winning pitcher, throwing the first four frames and striking out seven.
In the final game of the series on Sunday, Chillicothe completed the sweep with a 6-4 win. The Mudcats trailed 3-0 entering the sixth inning of the finale, but plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a lead they would never lose. Each team would score once more as the Mudcats wrapped up a perfect 4-0 weekend with a two-run win.
Vin Roth scored the win on the hill for the Mudcats. At the plate, Trenhaile had three hits and three RBIs.
With the four wins the Mudcats improved to 18-11 overall and 14-11 in MINK League play, just one game behind North Division Clarinda, IA, which sits at 14-9 in the MINK.
The Mudcats will return to the diamond on Tuesday at 7 p.m., traveling to Clarinda for another shot at the division leaders. Clarinda is 4-0 against Chillicothe on the season.
