Betty Rose Cooksey, an 85-year-old resident of Sibley, died on Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Independence.

The body was cremated and there were no services held.
Mrs. Cooksey was born on June 15, 1927, in Brimson, the daughter of Loren and Elizabeth Towns. She lived in Independence for 34 years before moving to Sibley, where she lived the last 20 years of her life. On Sept. 13, 1947, she was married to Jerald Lee Cooksey, who preceded her in death in 1973. Mrs. Cooksey worked for Macy’s for about 18 years before retiring.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Independence.
Mrs. Cooksey is survived by two daughters, Donna Mathews and her husband, Darold of Grain Valley and Sharon Hamm of Independence; two sons, Rick Cooksey and his wife, Nigel of Sibley and Dwayne Cooksey and his wife, Denise, of Higbee; a sister, Marilyn Tracy of Laredo; one brother, Steve Towns of Spickard; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Steve Cooksey; her parents; two brothers, Lowell and Francis Towns; and one sister, Ruth Barnes.
