Elmer Eugene “J.R.” Barnett Jr., a 55-year-old resident of Breckenridge, died on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Heritage Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery at Breckenridge.
There is no scheduled visitation. General visitation in under way at the funeral home and will continue until service time on Tuesday.
Mr. Barnett was born on July 14, 1957 in Fort George G. Meade, MD, the son of Rev. Elmer Eugene Barnett Sr. and Margaret Ann Booth Barnett. He was a veteran who served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of PFC and served stateside from 1975 through 1978.
He was an iron worker in the construction of sky scrapers until an accident forced him into early retirement.
He was a member of the Breckenridge Assembly of God Church and he enjoyed the great outdoors, especially landscaping and cutting firewood. He was also responsible for the rescue of many stray cats in the area.
He is survived by his parents, Rev. Elmer Eugene Barnett Sr. and Margaret Ann Barnett of Breckenridge; his daughter, Jennifer Renee Mohr and her husband, Christopher of Temple TX; three grandchildren, Kayleigh, Caden and Grayson Mohr of Temple; a brother, Jeffrey Barnett of Salt Lake City, UT; two sisters, Deborah Johnson and her husband, Russell of Breckenridge and Cynthia Greenwood of Independence; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
