The Gilman City FFA chapter held their annual chapter banquet on Friday, May 3.

The program began with introductions then all the members and guests gathered for dinner. As the banquet progressed 16 members were awarded various proficiency awards. Every year the chapter awards a leadership and scholarship award to a member from each class. The leadership awards are given to the student in each class who were willing to step up and get the job done. The Leadership awards went to freshman Trevor Burrows, sophomore Morgan Reed, junior Hannah Snuffer and senior Mitch Ragan.
The scholarship award is given to the person in each class who has the highest grade point average of that current year. The scholarship awards went to freshman Morgan Hightree, sophomore Morgan Mulnix, junior Hannah Snuffer and senior Mitch Ragan.
Members who filled out an area proficiency award were also recognized. These members included Rosie Parsons, small animal production ownership; Ryleigh Hightree, third in the area in poultry production ownership; Hannah Snuffer; Mitch Ragan, third in the area in ag sales placement; Blayton Bowles; Ryan Burrows; Miles Ward, third in the area in diversified crop production placement; Garland Mason, third in the area in diversified crop and beed production placement; Morgan Mulnix, Morgan Reed; and Zach Cox, first in the area in beef production ownership and went on to compete at the state level.
The 2012-2013 greenhands were Shane Arnold, Hayley Burnett, Trevor Burrows, Darriane Carey, Blain Elder, Morgan Hightree, Saige Holmes, and Joslyn Newton. Hayley Burnett was named the Star Greenhand.
The 2012-2013 chapter farmers were Blayton Bowles, Jillian Newton, Morgan Mulnix, Morgan Reed, Alec Sievering, Kady Sperry, Mikayla Toombs and Miles Ward. Morgan Reed was named the Star Chapter Farmer.
Ryan Burrows, Zach Cox, and Garland Mason were recognized for receiving the State Farmer Degree and Taylor Whitney, Katie Fountain and Ross Oram were recognized for earning the American FFA Degree. Jim Krueger presented the BTC Award to Miles Ward. Mitch Ragan was presented with the DeKalb Award.
FFA advisor Dan Chalfant talked about each contest team the members had competed on at the district and state levels and awarded them for their hard work as well as handing out special awards. The chapter started a new tradition this year of retiring the senior jackets.
The 2013-2014 officer team was installed and includes Hannah Snuffer, president; Hailey Francis, vice president; Rosie Parsons, secretary; Morgan Mulnix, treasurer; Morgan Reed, reporter; Trevor Burrows, sentinel; Hayley Burnett, historian and Joslyn Newton, parliamentarian.
