Grundy Teams Will Play For Third Place

The Grundy R-5 Junior High School basketball teams were in action once again at the Tri-County Tournament Wednesday night. The Lady Panthers fell, 23-18, to Gilman City, but the Grundy boys picked up a 44-22 victory over Pattonsburg.

In the girls contest, Grundy and Gilman were neck and neck after a quarter of play and the Lady Panthers used an 8-3 run in the second quarter to pull ahead 14-10 at halftime. Gilman turned the tables in the second half, however, outscoring Grundy 13-4 to take the game, 23-18.
The Lady Panthers were paced by Matana Munday and Zoe Littleton in the loss, both of whom scored eight points. Grundy also got two points from Ivy Rottman. Gilman City, meanwhile, was led by eight points from Blythe Hunter.
With the loss, Grundy falls to 3-3 on the season and falls to the third place game where the Lady Panthers will face Pattonsburg. That game will be played tonight.
The Grundy boys were able to pick up a win over Pattonsburg, doubling up their fellow Panthers in a 44-22 rout.
Grundy jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter and sat comfortably ahead at halftime, 27-10. The Panthers controlled the second half as well, pulling away for the 22-point victory.
Isaac Chamberlin had a huge night, leading Grundy with 17 points. Seth Riddle added eight points, Mason Radcliff had six and Alex Webb and Brady Huffman both finished with four. Isaiah Davidson gave the Panthers three points and Carter Searcy finished with two.
Grundy improved to 5-2 on the year with the win and will now play in the third place game of the Tri-County Tournament Friday night.
Other scores from the Tri-County Tournament on Wednesday night included Pattonsburg defeating Tri-County in a girls match-up, 38-12, and the Gilman City boys defeating Newtown-Harris, 50-34.
