For the first time since 2003, Trenton has state qualifiers in girls tennis. Jessica and Jaci Tracy followed up their doubles district championship with a sectional title on Monday in Chillicothe. The Tracys matched up against Sarah Lanning and Maggie Witherow of St. Pius X and came away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Tracys Win Sectional, Are State Bound
“We are very proud of Jaci and Jessica’s continuing season,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Abby Gott said. “They are a great doubles team and know exactly how to use each other’s strengths to win points. They have worked extremely hard this season and deserve the excitement of traveling to Springfield.”
Gott knows a thing or two about great doubles teams too. The last state qualifiers from Trenton were herself and partner Christina (Woodard) Ferguson, who advanced to state in the doubles bracket in 2003.
Now the Tracys will head to Springfield for the individual state tournament. The duo begins play at state on Friday, Oct. 19.
Before the Tracys begin play at state, however, they have a chance to take their team there. Trenton will face off with St. Pius X’s full team in a sectional dual on Saturday at Winnetonka High School in Kansas City. Action begins with first serves at 10 a.m. The winner of the dual advances to the team state quarterfinals.
