Princeton Picks Up Huge Win Over North Harrison

Oct 2, 2012 | Softball, Sports & Recreation

The Princeton Lady Tigers picked up a big win over North Harrison on Monday night, defeating the Lady Shamrocks 8-1 on senior night in Princeton. North Harrison entered as the top seed in the Class 1, District 15 Tournament, in which Princeton is seeded second and hosting. The Lady Tigers showed, however, that the district title is very much up for grabs with an impressive victory.

The Lady Tigers allowed one run in the top of the first, but that would be it. Princeton responded with a two-run spot in the bottom of the frame and three more runs in the second inning. The Lady Tigers closed the game with three runs over the final three innings to pull away for the win.
Chelsie Jones was nearly unhittable for the Lady Tigers, throwing seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk, while striking out six. The Lady Tigers’ defense was solid behind her as well, committing no errors.
“This was a huge win tonight,” Lady Tigers’ Head Coach Chrystal Mayfield said. “We played an errorless game and also hit very well. It was senior night and we recognized Emily Schwenneker and Nancy Berwanger. They were both back from injury and played very well in this game.”
Schwenneker was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs and Berwanger was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and five stolen bases. Shaylee Henley and Rebecca Phillips each drove in two runs.
PHS is now 11-10 and will face Mercer or Cainsville Thursday night in Princeton.
