Spokespersons for the Trenton Rotary Club, sponsors of the parade, indicate that flags will be placed along Ninth Street and throughout the downtown business district in canisters welcoming the community and especially the military veterans who are being honored as festival marshals. Additionally, flags will be located at the festival grounds and the general public is encouraged to display flags at their homes and businesses and plan on waving them during the parade.
About 1,000 flags remain available and Rotarians are hoping to make a significant statement with a total of 3,500 flags displayed along the parade route. Flags are still for sale for only $1 and can be purchased from parade co-chairs Steve Maxey or Rick Klinginsmith or any local Rotarian. The nylon flags are 17 x 12 inches and are mounted on a 24-inch wooden dowel.
Individuals who wish to purchase the flags have the option to have names of veterans added to the base of the flags on small labels or may even wish to simply indicate the flags were purchased anonymously or by individuals/businesses as a courtesy in recognition of the honored men and women who have served in the military.
The deadline for purchasing such flags is Friday, Oct. 12 in order to have the flags personalized for the display.
The theme of the 2012 Missouri Day Festival is “The Sounds of Freedom – A Tribute to the Military.”
Parade officials also announced that persons watching the parade are encouraged to wave the flags during the procession and that the flags are to be given away following the parade as souvenirs of the 2012 festival parade.
