Trenton netted just one win in the varsity match-up coming off the racket of Maria Stevenson, who won her singles contest by a score of 10-4.
Jaci Tracy lost at number one, 8-1, and Jessica Tracy fell at number two, 8-0. Megan Derry lost 10-6, Megan Sole lost 10-5 and Magie Steinhoff fell, 10-8.
Doubles play featured some close matches, but Kirksville took all three wins. The Tracys lost 10-8, Derry and Stevenson lost, 11-10 with a 7-3 tiebreaker, and Sole and Steinhoff fell, 10-2.
“The girls played well against a very tough team,” Lady Bulldogs’ Head Coach Abby Gott said. “Many of the matches were closer than the score showed. (Assistant) Coach (Lauren) Boswell and I are both very proud of the seasons varsity and JV had. We had a great group of girls, who worked hard and have really improved since we started in August. We are looking forward to districts next week.”
Trenton’s junior varsity was able to pick up an 8-6 win over the Lady Tigers’ JV. The doubles teams of Leah Husong and Siara Bailey, Hannah Brinser and Hannah Sowder and Megan Ellis and Jessica Harrison all won two doubles matches each. The teams of Ashley Allen and Kellie Smith and Michelle Stewart and Harrison each won one match.
Trenton will host the first round of team tennis districts on Monday. Cameron and Maryville will play at 1 p.m. with the winner facing Trenton at 4 o’clock.
