The Prudential Spirit of Community Award is a nationwide program that recognizes middle level and high school students for outstanding acts of community service. According to Grundy R-5 counselor Kimbra Mullenix, the nominees have made a difference in their community by volunteering over the past year.

Miss Axtell has collected and distributed books to Children’s Mercy Hospital as well as collected and distributed personal items to surrounding schools during the flu season. She also gave the proceeds of her garage sale to her classroom teacher to be used toward classroom supplies.
