The Trenton Lady Bulldogs volleyball team is on the rise. Not just on the season, but as a program.
The Lady Bulldogs won their third match in a row on Tuesday night and have now won seven of their last 12 matches. Trenton handed East Buchanan a 26-24, 25-16 loss in the THS gym for its latest victory.
Trenton Volleyball Team Wins Third Match In A Row
Trenton trailed early in the first set, but took off, catching East Buchanan around the 10-point mark. Trenton then pulled out to a 20-15 lead before East Buchanan began to battle back. The visiting Bulldogs caught Trenton, tying the game at 24-24. When faced with adversity, however, Trenton bucked the trend of previous Lady Bulldogs teams and dug deep to win the game, 26-24.
Following the display of mental toughness, the Lady Bulldogs had no trouble taking the match, winning the second game by nine points.
Katie Ireland had six kills and two blocks and Lakisha Hughs finished with five kills and one block. Bekah Wiggins and Kelsey Scott each had two kills and Scott added a block.
Kate Ewald set up the majority of the kills, finishing with eight assists while Malinda Foster added three assists. Courtney Weyer and Gwen Delp each had eight digs and Scott and Wiggins led the team at the service line with two aces each.
With the win, Trenton improved to 7-8 on the season, just one game below .500.
The junior varsity also won in two sets, defeating the East Buchanan JV 25-13, 26-24.
Trenton will return to the court on Monday, Oct. 1, looking to get to .500 with a trip to Chillicothe to face the Lady Hornets. Action begins at 5 p.m. with the JV match and the varsity will follow.
