According to information provided by Administrator Mike Garrett, board members discussed ideas on how to make the benefits package more attractive to retain teachers. No action was taken and the item will be revisited by the board at its February meeting.
Garrett reported on the resent inspection by the school’s insurance carrier, MUSIC. He said there were no violations and that faculty and staff have completed the required MUSIC online training. The board also discussed the district’s safety and surveillance plans and equipment.
Garrett reported that 21 students are participating in the Backpack Buddies Program and that attendance is averaging 98.4 percent, with some minor illnesses keeping students out of school. Garrett reported that the district is slowly trying to incorporate the new federal requirements for the breakfast/lunch program and is incurring additional costs as a result.
There was a report on professional development, with Garrett telling about his participation in the Advanced Leadership Academy and Sue Hashman’s participation in the Teacher Academy. He also reported on the common core standards, with teachers attending workshops in order to prepare for the transition from grade level expectations to common core.
An executive session was held for student and personnel matters with no announcement made.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 15.
