“A Joyful Noise Community Choir” was formed in 1993 because of an inspired vision for unity. This 20-member choir, directed by Leta Davis, is composed of members from various denominations, with various gifts of music, but they are most all family members. There are various age groups in the choir because they have mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, nieces and nephews and spouse, singing together. They were originally influenced by quartet singing, but as the family grew, they began to enjoy the choir sound from choirs such as New Jersey Mass, Walter Hawkins, Love Alive Choir, Mississippi Mass, etc. They sing a delightful blend of contemporary and traditional gospel songs.
The choir has traveled and performed throughout the Midwest, performed at Carver Day in Diamond, at Whiteman Air Force Base’s for their Black History celebration, sung at hospitals, various festivals, health fairs, KC’s Gospel Under the Stars, church retreats, shopping malls, nursing homes and penal institutions. They celebrated their 19th year of musical performances on Feb. 25-26 at the Christ Tabernacle Church in Kansas City.
“A Joyful Noise Community Choir” has been nominated as best gospel choir for both the Beacon Award and the Omer Award. They won Best Song of the Year for the song “He Lifted Me” at the Omer Awards in 2001 and “Best Choir” for 2005. In 2007, they were chosen “Best Choir” at the Newsome Awards.
