The Grundy boys had no trouble with Pattonsburg, winning by the 15-run rule after three innings. Destin Gann and Stuart Eller each had home runs for the Panthers and Clayton Radcliff and Elliott O’Neal each went 3-for-4. Mason Larson and Alex Halstead both hit doubles in the game.
The win moved R-5 to 3-1 on the year and places the team in the semifinals on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. against Mercer.
The Grundy girls led Tri-County 7-0, but 10 walks in the fourth inning alone allowed the Lady Mustangs to score eight runs and take the lead. R-5 responded, scoring four in the bottom of the frame and then holding off Tri-County. Kylie Littleton led Grundy at the plate, going 2-2.
A loss to Mercer in the quarterfinals dropped Grundy (3-3) to the loser’s bracket, where they will face Winston on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Princeton
The Lady Tigers fell behind 7-0 in the first two innings before mounting a small rally in the third inning, scoring two runs. Princeton would only pick up one more run however, coming in the sixth as King City took the game, 12-3.
The Lady Tigers (5-3, 3-1 GRC) were led by Nancy Berwanger, who had two steals and two runs scored. Princeton hosts Milan Monday at 5 p.m.
