Area residents will have the opportunity to participate and help raise up to $6,000 for Key Club and its charities by test driving a Ford vehicle at Trenton High School on Saturday, Sep. 8. The event will run from 8 to 5 p.m. in the Trenton High School parking lot.
For every test drive conducted on Sept. 8, Ford will donate $20 to THS Key Club. There is a limit of one test drive per household. One lucky person who completes a test drive this fall at a Drive 4UR School event will also win a 2013 Ford Escape, courtesy of Ford.
Key Club is the world’s largest high school organization dedicated to service. The THS Key Club has 45 members who perform a variety of service projects and raise funds for charity. This past year they assisted the Jewett Norris Library with re-coding books, worked on projects to promote literacy, made craft kits for patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital, created a Veterans Day display in front of Trenton High School, hosted joint activities with DAWGS and worked with the Kiwanis Club on many of their projects. They also raised funds for UNICEF, March of Dimes, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
In the past school year, they performed over 50 service projects, that resulted in nearly 3,000 hours of service and donated nearly $3,500 to charity. For the second straight year, the club has received recognition as an outstanding club on the International level. They are sponsored by the Trenton Kiwanis Club and the faculty advisor is Mrs. E’Lisha Gass.
Persons wanting more information about the Drive One 4 UR School can contact Kiwanis sponsor Kara Helmandollar at 359-5966. Although they are not required, individuals can also call to schedule an appointment for a test drive.
