The Trenton Lady Bulldogs volleyball team officially got its season under way on Monday night, traveling to Lexington for a match with the Minutewomen. Unfortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, the Minutewomen were able to defend their home court as they handed the Lady Bulldogs a 25-16, 25-13 loss to start the season.

Trenton did have some bright spots in the loss, such as the play of sophomore Lakisha Hughs, who tallied five kills in the loss. Kate Ewald had 11 assists and Kelsey Scott had seven digs. Rebekah Wiggins had the team’s only ace and Scott and Katie Ireland shared the team’s only block.
With the loss, Trenton established an 0-1 record to start the season. The Lady Bulldogs will look to bounce back tonight as they see action at home for the first time in the young season. Trenton plays host to Lawson in the THS gym. Action starts with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity will follow.
Trenton’s junior varsity was in action against Lexington as well, taking a victory over the Minutewomen JV. The Lady Bulldogs’ JV got the job done in three sets behind Hayley Mathews, who had four kills, and Malinda Foster, who had seven assists. The JV established a 1-0 start to its 2012 season.
