Ellen was born on Nov. 10, 1922 at the family farm in Harris, the daughter of John Truman and Berniece Stanturf.
In 1927 her parents, teachers, drove a Model T Ford to Fort Birthhold, ND. Ellen and her family lived on the Indian Reservation until 1939. They learned the life, cultures and practices of the American Indians.
Upon returning to Missouri, Ellen graduated from the Harris High School. She then moved to California to take care of her sick grandmother (Ellen Caughlan) and stayed until her death.

She also helped with raising many foster children. Ellen held many jobs to help support the family, grocery store clerk, cook in the school cafeteria and a laborer at the Lamb Net Manufacturing Plant.
In 1983, Don retired from the railroad and they moved to Cainsville. When her husband died, Ellen moved and lived in Newtown. Finally, she returned to Cainsville to enjoy her family and friends. She made lovely decorated cakes, dolls, doll houses and toys for her family.
Ellen belonged to the 20th Century Club of Cainsville, the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She attended and was active in church and community affairs her entire life. She loved the Lord. Her family and her little ones spent many hours on her front porch enjoying life.
