The Republican ballot is filled with candidates for local offices with one of those races, sheriff, deciding who will face the Democrat candidate in November. The winners of all other local GOP races will be the lone candidates appearing on the November General Election ballot.
With Grundy County now being in the Seventh Legislative District, voters will have two candidates on both the GOP and Democrat ballots. Incumbent Mike Lair of Chillicothe faces challenger John Meyers of Trenton on the Republican ballot while the Democrat ballot has Harry Wyse of Chillicothe against Travis Gonzalez of Trenton.
In addition to the county races, voters in Trenton will decide the fate of a one-fourth of 1 percent sales tax which, if approved, will provide funds for the local fire department. According to information from previous city council meetings, the funds would be used to help pay for equipment as well as to establish a fire training center, which could be used to train not only local firefighters, but firemen from throughout north Missouri as well.
