Bill Smith, a 93-year-old resident of Chillicothe, died on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at the St. Columban’s Catholic Church in Chillicothe. Burial will be in the Plainview Cemetery at Chula.
A Parish Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012 at the church, followed by a family visitation. General visitation will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Friday at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe and from 3 to 9 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Smith was born on Dec. 4, 1918 in Chula, the son of Brock and Grace Kilburn Smith. After the death of his mother at age four, Sarah Smith raised him. He is a 1936 graduate of Chula High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He lived most of his life at Chula, moving to the Chillicothe area in 1981.
He married Grace Lucille Catron on April 5, 1942 at Chillicothe. She survives of the home. The couple wintered in Brownsville, TX from 1976 to 2012.
Mr. Smith was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of the St. Columban’s Catholic Church, the Charolais Association, Mid-American Dairy, was an OATS bus driver, an RSVP volunteer and had a lifetime membership in the Grand River Historical Society.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Vulgamott and her husband, Kerby of Chilicothe and Billie Jennings and her husband, John of Warrensburg; a daughter-in-law, Pat Smith of Chula; a sister, Frances Leigh Lamp of Chillicothe; seven grandchildren, Billy Smith of Kansas City, Amy Kelsey and her husband, Kris of Agency, Abby Smith and her husband, Chad of Chillicothe, Chad Vulgamott of Chillicothe, Kerby “Chip” Vulgamott of Herculaneum, Sarah Fromal and her husband, Steven of Wallingford, PA and Jack Jennings of Fayetteville, AR; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his biological mother, Grace Kilburn Smith; a son, Robert “Bob” Smith; three brothers, Wade Smith, Dale Smith and Dale Gorham; an infant sister, Helen Gladys Smith; and one great-grandchild, Myles Fromal.
